Back to Top Is it safe to apply online? All credit card application pages use Secure Sockets Layer ("SSL") for secure transmissions. SSL applies encryption to provide confidentiality between two communicating applications, such as your computer and the bank's Internet server which hosts the credit card application. Encryption is defined as a process for scrambling data to prevent illicit entry into a system or interception of information as it travels over the network. Your browser's SSL capabilities will be utilized when accessing the credit card application. When your data is transmitted over the Internet, it is encrypted at both ends: sending and receiving. All credit card application sites keep your information on a secure server and protect it with a firewall, which is monitored for breach attempts. Back to Top How long does it take to get approval? The time it takes for approvals varies from as quick as 30 seconds to as many as 30 days. However, the approval process is decidedly shortened when you decide to apply online versus the outdated method of applying through postal mail. Why is this? An applications sent through the mail take days to be delivered to the bank's application center where it then needs to be manually entered into their computer system for processing. This means a person is tasked with entering your data piece by piece into an electronic form in preparation for processing. When you apply online, you short-cut this process by sending your information directly to the application center's computers. You data is ready to be processed the instant it is received by the bank. Back to Top When will I receive my new credit card? You will most likely receive your new credit card within 30 days of approval, but the actual number of days you'll wait does vary. In some cases you will receive your new credit card in as little as a 3-5 days. Some banks can issue you your new credit card number even before you receive your card. You can use this credit card number for transactions that do not require a physical credit card (such as online purchases). By applying online using the bank's secure application website rathar than submitting a paper application through postal mail, you'll reduce the overall time needed to process your application and issue you a new card.
